The Best Gifts for Expecting Moms (Not Baby) Under $50
So… Here’s some exciting news. My husband and I are trying to have our second child now! And with that in mind, I started thinking about the types of gifts I wanted last time I was expecting (and what I did NOT want). If you’re buying for an expecting mom, check out this gift guide. And be sure to keep in mind that it’s important to make the mommy feel special, so don’t just buy items for the baby.
The Best Gifts for Expecting Moms
Essential Oil Set
Essential oils can be used to help pregnant moms with things like nausea, anxiety, sleep, and discomfort. So a set of organic essential oils like this one can be the perfect gift. You might also want to give her a diffuser if she doesn’t already have one. I should note that according to Plant Therapy, essential oils are not recommended for use during the first trimester, and you want to make sure that she knows which oils are pregnancy-safe.
Gourmet Decaf Tea
For a mommy who’s used to her morning cup of coffee, it can be really hard trying to avoid caffeine during pregnancy. So consider getting your expecting mom a cozy set of organic teas like this one.
Postpartum Nursing Gown
My mom got me this gown and matching robe when I had my daughter, and I pretty much lived in it the first few months after giving birth. The full set is over $50. But perhaps the gown is what’s really important here because the top of it can be pulled down easily for breastfeeding.
Ok. This one is 39 cents over $50, but still… What’s great about this maternity pillow is that it provides support on both sides of the body. So it will support Mommy’s belly and back and will help her to stay asleep on her side, which is essential toward the end of pregnancy. Plus, this pillow comes with a washable cover. And if you’ve looked for one before, you know that’s usually a hard quality to find in a maternity pillow.
Pregnancy Skin/Body Care Set
Women who are pregnant ideally want to use beauty products that won’t harm the baby. And they want to keep their skin glowing and stretchmark-free. But they might not invest in an organic body/skin care set on their own, so here’s your chance to treat them to one. The last time I was pregnant, I treated myself to a gift set that had similar products to this one. And I loved it!
Safer/ Organic Makeup
When I became pregnant with my first child, I also became concerned about the ingredients that were in my makeup. I wanted to be sure that I wasn’t using makeup with ingredients that could harm my baby. So I tried out some organic makeup brands. So far, I’ve been pleased with this Mineral Fusion brand that I get at Whole Foods, especially because the prices aren’t so bad.
My husband and I tried these pillows out at a fall festival, and we didn’t want to leave the vendor’s tent! These vibrating pillows can be used all over the body and are supposedly good for sciatic nerve pain, which a lot of pregnant women get. And the best part is that they’re affordable.
Parenting Super Bundle
Looking for something unique? Instead of giving your expecting mom a baby book, why not help her get set up for parenthood by giving her a whole series of digital books, courses, and tools to help her succeed at parenting?
Ultimate Bundles puts together bunches of helpful resources and sells them at a low price (I’m currently going through all the goodies in their blogging bundle, and it’s awesome!). Their Parenting Super Bundle has everything you need to know about parenting from discipline to mealtime to traveling with kids. BUT… This bundle will no longer be available after July, 2018, so check it out now!
An Over-Sized Pair of Shoes
Last time around, my feet were so swollen during the last 1-2 months of pregnancy that I couldn’t fit into any of my shoes. So if you know your expecting mama isn’t prepared for that, consider helping her out in advance by getting her a comfy pair of shoes or slippers (that look like shoes) in the next size up. That way, she won’t end up having to duck-tape a pair of her husband’s flip-flops onto her feet (Did you catch that episode of This Is Us?).
A More Unique/Luxurious Gift Card
I hate to break it to you, but do you know what my least favorite gift was that I received for my first baby? Clothes! A lot of expecting mothers want to pick out their own baby clothes. It’s one of the joys of expecting a baby. So instead of doing the shopping for the expecting mama in your life, consider getting a gift card to a more luxurious baby store like Janie and Jack for clothing or The Land of Nod for nursery décor so that she can enjoy picking out baby items that reflect her own taste.
I hope this list gives you some ideas for something to get that special mama-to-be in your life. What other gift ideas do you have for expecting moms?
